Something to Think About

Employee Training of the Month*
  • The Manager directed the supervisors to get their people trained and to report back.

  • By the end of the week, the supervisors reported their progress (i.e., percentage of people trained).
Supervisor A B C D E Total
Number of Employees 5 10 20 70 95 = 200
employees
Number Trained 5 9 19 21 9 = 63
trained
Average trained 100% 90% 95% 30% 9% 31.5% trained

  • Putting together a composite report, the manager felt pretty good about their progress.
"Manager's average" Sum of the averages
 = 100 + 90 + 95 + 30 + 9
 = 324

Average of averages = 324 / 5 = 65%
Wow! _Over one-hundred percent improvement.

(Leave it to a manager to show the best results!)
* Most are trained or most are not;
  Over half-full or over half-empty?

  (Depends upon how and by whom the score is kept!)
